Miner's moss

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007107

A type of matting material, typically made from synthetic fibers, used in placer mining operations to trap fine gold particles. Its fibrous structure creates turbulence in the water flow, allowing heavier gold to settle and become entangled within the mat while lighter sediments wash away. This material is laid in sluice boxes or gold recovery tables.
