Pancake
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004118
A structural collapse in which the floors of a building fall one after another, each landing on the floor below so that the slabs end up stacked in layers. It typically begins when columns or wall supports fail, or when the connections between floor slabs and their supports are overloaded. Flat-slab concrete buildings are especially prone to it in earthquakes, as in Mexico City in 1985.
