Perching

The visual inspection of woven cloth, in which the fabric is drawn over a perch, a frame fitted with lights, so that an inspector can spot faults such as stains, broken threads, and weaving defects. It is done on cloth before finishing and is repeated as a final check afterwards. The inspector who does the work is called a percher.
