Sword

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005821

A flat, bar-like component of a loom that carries the reed, which is a comb-like frame used to separate and space the warp threads. The sword pivots back and forth, swinging the reed to beat or press each newly inserted weft thread firmly against the previously woven fabric. This action, known as beating-up, is what compacts the threads to create a tight and even cloth.
