Reed
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004741
A comb-like device in a loom, consisting of a series of vertical wires or dents set into a frame, through which the warp yarns pass. Its primary function is to space the warp threads evenly and to push the newly inserted weft thread firmly into place against the fell of the cloth. The number of dents per inch in a reed determines the sett, or density, of the woven fabric.
