Platten

A flat plate or surface in a machine that applies pressure or provides a base for a workpiece. In printing presses, the platen presses paper against the inked type or plate, while in injection molding, platens hold the two halves of the mold and clamp them together. The force exerted by the platens in a molding machine is measured in tons and defines the machine's clamping capacity.
