Nip

The contact point or line where two rotating rolls or cylinders come together, creating a compressive force on material passing between them. In paper and pulp operations, nips are found in presses, calenders, and winders, where they dewater, smooth, or tension the paper web. The pressure exerted at the nip can range from a few pounds per linear inch to several thousand.
