Nip-out
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003900
A geological condition where a coal seam or mineral vein thins out and disappears completely, often due to a fault, wash-out, or a change in depositional environment. This thinning can occur gradually over a distance or abruptly. Miners encounter nip-outs during excavation, which can affect production rates and mine planning.
