Pinch out
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004318
A geological condition where a rock layer or stratum thins progressively to zero thickness. This occurs when a sedimentary unit terminates against an older surface or due to non-deposition. Pinch-outs can form stratigraphic traps for hydrocarbons, as the thinning layer creates an impermeable barrier to fluid migration.
