Pinch

To remove the main growing tip from a young plant, either with fingers or shears, to encourage lateral branching. This action stimulates the growth of side shoots from the leaf axils below the pinch, resulting in a fuller, bushier plant. Pinching is applied to many herbaceous annuals and perennials to increase the number of flowers or create a more compact form.
