Bearer
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000493
A non-printing area on a printing plate or cylinder that supports the printing surface and maintains consistent pressure during the printing process. This raised surface prevents the printing image from contacting the impression cylinder directly, which could cause smudging or uneven ink transfer. Bearers are typically found at the leading and trailing edges of a plate or around the circumference of a cylinder.
