Headstick

A piece of furniture, typically wood or metal, placed at the top of a locked-up printing form in a chase. It runs along the head margin of the page or pages being printed. Along with side sticks and foot sticks, the headstick is used with quoins to apply pressure and hold the type and blocks securely in position for printing, preventing any movement during the press run.
