Quoin

A wedge-shaped device or expanding mechanical lock used in letterpress printing to secure the form (the assembled type and blocks) within the chase (a metal frame). Quoins apply pressure to hold all elements tightly in place, preventing movement during the printing impression. They are typically tightened with a quoin key.
