The final assembly of metal or wood type and printing blocks locked securely in a metal frame, called a chase, ready to be placed on a letterpress. Spacing material called furniture and locking devices called quoins are used to hold all the elements tightly in place. Once locked up, the typeform represents the complete page or layout to be printed in a single impression.
