Pony wall

A short wall that does not extend to the full ceiling height, used to divide interior spaces or as the upper section of a foundation wall. In basements, it is the wood-framed wall built on top of a concrete foundation wall to meet the required ceiling height for the first floor. This construction method is common in split-level homes or on sloped lots where the foundation height varies around the building perimeter.
