Describing a fabric that has an undesirable appearance of visible rows or streaks, usually from variations in yarn or dye uptake between adjacent courses or picks. The fault is judged by eye on the finished cloth, and the noun for it is rowiness. In knitted goods the same streaky effect is also called barre.
