Self-centering

Describing a mechanism or device that automatically aligns a workpiece or tool to a central axis or reference point without manual adjustment. This feature simplifies setup and improves the accuracy of machining operations by reducing alignment errors. Three-jaw chucks on lathes are a common example of self-centering devices.
