Seton

A length of thread, tape, or other absorbent material drawn through a surgically created passage beneath the skin of an animal, with the ends left protruding. In veterinary medicine for livestock, it is used to maintain drainage from an abscess or wound, preventing it from closing prematurely and allowing it to heal from the inside out. The material acts as a wick for pus and other fluids and is periodically adjusted or replaced.
