Shoofly

A temporary railway track built to bypass a section of the main line that is out of service for construction, maintenance, or because of an obstruction. This diversion allows rail traffic to continue flowing while work is performed on the permanent alignment. Shoofly tracks are constructed to lower standards than the main line and have speed restrictions, with a typical maximum speed of 10 to 25 miles per hour.
