To drill a new wellbore from an existing well, deviating from the original path. This technique is employed to bypass an obstruction, access a different reservoir zone, or correct a drilling problem. Sidetracking often involves setting a cement plug in the original wellbore and then drilling a new hole at a controlled angle, using downhole motors and steerable assemblies.
