Chain drill

A technique used to create a large hole or slot by drilling a series of overlapping or closely spaced smaller holes along the desired perimeter. After drilling, the remaining material between the holes is removed using a chisel or other cutting tool. This method is often employed when a large hole saw or punch is not available or suitable for the material.
