Drifter

A powerful, air-powered percussion drill mounted on a column or jumbo for drilling horizontal or near-horizontal blast holes in underground mining and tunneling. The drill, also called a drifter drill, advances along a feed shell as it operates, allowing for the creation of long, straight holes for explosives. Modern drifters are hydraulic and feature anti-jamming rotation mechanisms and high penetration rates, measured in meters per minute.
