Chain

A historical unit of linear measurement used in surveying, equivalent to 66 feet or 100 links. This unit was originally derived from the Gunter's chain, a physical measuring device consisting of 100 iron links. It is still used in some land descriptions, particularly in the United States Public Land Survey System.
