Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005314
A length of yarn, thread, or silk wound into a loose, elongated loop and twisted or tied so it does not tangle, the form in which much hand-knitting and embroidery yarn is sold. Retail skeins vary widely in length, commonly holding about 100 to 400 yards. The cotton hank of 840 yards and the worsted hank of 560 yards are trade count units, not standard skein sizes.
