Spandrel
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005497
The panel or section of a building's exterior wall located between the top of a window on one story and the sill of the window on the story above. In modern curtain wall systems, this area is typically filled with an opaque or translucent panel, known as spandrel glass, to hide structural columns, insulation, and mechanical systems. In traditional masonry, the spandrel is the roughly triangular space between the exterior curve of an arch and the rectangular framework enclosing it.
