Sump

A pit or reservoir in a basement or low-lying area designed to collect unwanted water, preventing flooding. It houses a sump pump, which automatically activates to discharge the collected water away from the building's foundation. Sump systems are common in areas with high water tables or prone to heavy rainfall.
