Dipstick

A simple measuring tool for checking the fluid level in a reservoir, such as an engine's oil sump or a transmission case. It consists of a long, thin metal or plastic rod that is inserted into the fluid and then withdrawn for a visual reading. The rod is marked with high and low indicators, showing the acceptable operating range for the fluid.
