Fluid flywheel
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002370
A hydrodynamic device that transmits rotational power from an engine to a gearbox through a fluid medium, rather than a mechanical clutch. It consists of an impeller connected to the engine and a turbine connected to the transmission, both enclosed in a housing filled with oil. This device provides smooth power transfer and absorbs torsional vibrations, with a slip rate that decreases as engine speed increases.
