Electrogyro
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002005
A mechanical energy storage device that uses a large, heavy flywheel to store rotational energy. An electric motor spins the flywheel up to a high speed, and this kinetic energy is then converted back into electricity by the same unit operating as a generator when power is needed. These were used to power vehicles like buses on short routes, with the flywheel being re-energized at charging stations located every few kilometers.
