Tailfin

A distinctive design element on the rear fenders of automobiles, typically rising vertically and tapering towards the rear. Popularized in the 1950s, tailfins were initially inspired by aviation and rocket designs, serving primarily as a styling cue rather than for aerodynamic function. They reached their peak in size and extravagance on American cars of the late 1950s.
