Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006097
An automated system that monitors the air pressure inside a vehicle's pneumatic tires. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) uses sensors in each wheel to report real-time pressure information to the driver via a gauge, a pictogram display, or a low-pressure warning light. In the United States, the TREAD Act of 2000 mandates the installation of a TPMS in all new passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles, trucks, and buses with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less.
