Tree cookie

A cross-sectional slice of a tree trunk or branch, typically cut to display the annual growth rings. These slices are used for dendrochronology, which is the scientific method of dating tree rings to the exact year they were formed. Tree cookies provide a visual record of a tree's age and past environmental conditions.
