Typograph

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006286

A line-casting typesetting machine invented by the American John Raphael Rogers, who patented it in 1888. It cast a whole line of text as one bar of type metal, the same idea the Linotype company protected with its own patent. That patent blocked Rogers from selling in the United States, so he sold the rights to a German firm, where it saw use in print shops.
