Uplock

A mechanical latching device within a retractable landing gear system that holds the gear in the fully retracted, or up, position during flight. It engages with a corresponding hook or pin on the landing gear strut to prevent it from extending due to gravity, vibration, or aerodynamic forces. The uplock is hydraulically or electrically released by the flight crew's command to lower the gear for landing.
