The design diving speed, representing the maximum speed an aircraft is designed to withstand in a dive without suffering structural damage. This speed is established by the manufacturer during the design and flight testing phases to demonstrate the aircraft's structural integrity under extreme aerodynamic loads. The design diving speed (VD) is set higher than the never-exceed speed (VNE) which is the maximum speed placarded for pilot operation.
