Appeal

A formal request made to a higher authority to review and reverse a decision made by a lower one. In insurance, this can refer to a policyholder's request for the insurer to reconsider a denied claim, or a litigant's petition to a higher court to review a trial court's judgment. A party filing an appeal is known as the appellant, while the responding party is the appellee.
