Assumption of risk doctrine

A legal principle that prevents a plaintiff from recovering damages for injuries sustained if they willingly and knowingly participated in an activity with inherent dangers. This doctrine asserts that individuals who understand and accept the risks associated with an activity cannot later sue for injuries resulting from those risks. It is a common defense in negligence lawsuits.
