Spearin doctrine

A legal principle in construction contracts stating that when an owner provides a contractor with plans and specifications, the owner implicitly warrants that those plans are accurate and suitable for the intended purpose. If defects in the plans cause the contractor to incur additional costs, the owner is liable. This doctrine shifts risk from the contractor to the owner for design errors.
