Cestui que vie

The individual whose life is the measure for the duration of a life insurance or annuity policy. The policy pays out benefits upon the death of this person. The cestui que vie is the subject of the insurance but is not necessarily the policy owner or the beneficiary; for example, a corporation may own a key person policy on an executive, who is the cestui que vie.
