Collapse: homeowners policy

A sudden and abrupt falling down or caving in of a building or part of a building, which renders the structure uninhabitable or unusable. This peril is covered under most homeowners' policies, but the cause of the collapse must be specifically listed in the policy, such as hidden decay or insect damage. Damage from settling, cracking, or shrinking is usually excluded.
