Compensated intercorporate hauling (CIH)

Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-000863

Paid hauling that one member of a corporate family performs for other members, where the parent owns all of the participating subsidiaries. Federal law exempts it from economic regulation, unlike ordinary private carriage, in which a company moves its own goods without charge. The exemption once required a published notice listing the subsidiaries and certifying 100 percent ownership, a filing dropped in 1997.
