Parent company

A company that owns a controlling interest in another company, known as a subsidiary. This ownership structure means the parent company has the ability to direct the management and operations of the subsidiary. In insurance, the parent company's policies sometimes extend coverage to its subsidiaries, or separate policies may be required for each entity.
