Countersignature

An additional signature required on an insurance policy or other legal document, often by an agent or broker in the state where the policy is issued, to validate the contract. This practice confirms that the policy complies with local regulations and that the agent is licensed to conduct business in that jurisdiction. Some states mandate countersignatures for specific types of insurance, such as workers' compensation.
