Electronic signature

An electronic sound, symbol, or process attached to or logically associated with a record and executed or adopted by a person with the intent to sign the record. It serves the same legal function as a handwritten signature in many contexts, including insurance applications and policy agreements. The legal framework for electronic signatures is provided by laws like the ESIGN Act.
