Electronic signature

An electronic sound, symbol, or process attached to or logically associated with a record and executed or adopted by a person with the intent to sign the record. It serves the same legal purpose as a handwritten signature in many jurisdictions. The Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) and the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN Act) provide legal validity for electronic signatures in the United States.
