An unethical and illegal practice where an insurance agent persuades a policyholder to cancel an existing life insurance policy and purchase a new one, to the detriment of the policyholder. This is typically done to generate new commissions for the agent, even if the new policy offers no real advantage or is less favorable. State insurance regulations strictly prohibit this practice.
