Direct filtration

Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-001163

A water treatment process that removes particulate matter and microorganisms by passing coagulated water directly through a filter medium, omitting the full sedimentation stage used in conventional filtration. This method is applied to manage public health risks from waterborne pathogens in source water that already has low turbidity and color. Direct filtration plants are regulated under standards like the Surface Water Treatment Rule, which specifies performance requirements for pathogen removal.
