Clean Water Act of 1972 (CWA)

A federal law in the United States that governs water pollution. This act establishes the basic structure for regulating pollutant discharges into the waters of the United States and regulating quality standards for surface waters. It made it unlawful to discharge any pollutant from a point source into navigable waters without a permit.
