Waste load allocation

The portion of a receiving water's total maximum daily load (TMDL) that is assigned to a specific point source of pollution. It quantifies the maximum amount of a pollutant that a facility can discharge without violating water quality standards. These allocations are a key component of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits under the Clean Water Act.
