Expense load

The portion of an insurance premium that is allocated to cover the insurer's operating costs, such as administrative expenses, commissions, taxes, and marketing. It is added to the pure premium, which covers expected claims, to arrive at the total premium charged to the policyholder. The expense load varies by policy type and insurer efficiency.
